April 24, 2018 - Continued Hold on U.S. Landsat ARD Production

The USGS temporarily suspended the production of U.S. Landsat Analysis Ready Data (ARD) tiles on March 19, 2018 to allow for the integration of Landsat Surface Temperature and Dynamic Surface Water Extent products. The planned April 30 production re-start has been delayed unexpectedly and is rescheduled for mid-May 2018. (Read More)

April 20, 2018 - 10th Anniversary of Imagery for Everyone

On April 21, 2008, the USGS officially announced the pursuit of an aggressive schedule to provide users with no charge electronic access to any Landsat scene held in the USGS-managed national archive of global scenes dating back to Landsat 1, launched in 1972. (Read More)

March 26, 2018 - Landsat AOI Bulk Metadata Service to be Discontinued

On April 6, 2018, the Landsat Bulk Metadata service for an area-of-interest (AOI) will be removed from the Landsat Missions Website.Instead, users are encouraged to use EarthExplorer to conduct AOI bulk metadata searches and exports. Please refer to the EarthExplorer Help Documentation for more information on how to use the AOI bulk metadata service. (Read More)

Landsat 9 Spacecraft Passes Latest Critical Design Review

Orbital ATK has been given approval to begin building the NASA Landsat 9 spacecraft after completing a comprehensive design review of the mission. Orbital ATK is designing and manufacturing the satellite, integrating two science instruments, and supporting launch, early orbit operations and on-orbit check-out of the observatory. (Read More)

March 14, 2018 - Upcoming Temporary Hold on U.S. Landsat ARD Production

Starting Monday, March 19, 2018, U.S. Landsat ARD tile production will be temporarily suspended to allow for the integration of two new Landsat Science Products, Surface Temperature and Dynamic Surface Water Extent. U.S. Landsat ARD tiles processed through March 18, 2018 will remain available for download from EarthExplorer. (Read More)

February 8, 2018 - NASA and USGS Celebrate 5 Year Launch Anniversary of Landsat 8

February 11, 2018 will mark the 5th anniversary of the launch of Landsat 8 from Vandenberg Air Force Base in California. A joint NASA and USGS mission, Landsat 8 adds to the longest continuous data record of Earth’s surface as viewed from space. Since launch, Landsat 8 has completed over 25,500 Earth orbits, traveled over 700 million miles, and contributed over 1.1 million scenes to the USGS Landsat archive. (Read More)
